Like our Editor-in-Chief Pete, I've been trying to try out a tungsten-coated frame from SIG since I first heard about it. The idea of ​​adding something to the frame of a pistol to reduce recoil is nothing new, and in the competitive arena I often find myself amazed that people would go to great lengths to make their pistols heavier to get all the benefits Sir Newton let us know. What's really cool about the XCarry Legion though is that it combines a compact frame with a tungsten-infused grip to give you an easy-to-handle and easy-to-shoot pistol - I wouldn't call it a carry pistol unless you're using it. P320 With Light

The pistol comes in a hard plastic case with a gun lock, along with a small bottle of lube, regimental registration papers and three magazines. That's another weird part of the setup for me because if you're going to market it to match shooters, as I think it's going to be marketed, most people know you're not going to go away with just three 17 rounds Far away magazine. .Personally, if I were to market this specifically to competition shooters who also want to depress their guns for practice or recreation, just add 5 magazines, charge an extra retail price for them, and call it a day.

I tested the XCarry Legion for a few months and probably fired about 600-700 rounds with suppressed and unsuppressed fire. The P320 platform has always felt like a very jerky pistol in the past, but I didn't experience that with the XCarry Legion. The tungsten coated frame makes even the spiciest ammo I own a breeze, and it makes the XCarry Legion a real joy to shoot. I decided to replace the standard adjustable sight module with my Type 2 RMR and had no issues fitting the optics. Although I will say that the scope that comes with the XCarry Legion is very good and the rear height is easily adjustable.

At an event in southeast Texas I was able to test the XCarry Legion further by moving it around a bit and shooting it, and while it turns out my optics weren't quite zeroed out after multiple optic changes, I still able to arrive. Get a better idea of ​​how the gun behaves without a suppressor - that's good. I'm not a big fan of the P320, thankfully the skeletonized flat trigger makes shooting the XCarry Legion more enjoyable, but I still prefer a cleaner disconnect and reset.

If the tungsten coated frame isn't heavy enough for you, you still have the option of adding a light to the gun's dust cover to make it a bit heavier. To fix this, I tried two different Crimson Trace options, both of which were sent to our Texas event for testing and evaluation. I'm considering the Crimson Trace CMR-204 laser/light combo and CMR-208 for low light shooting.

When it comes to shooting at night, the CMR-208 proved capable of shooting at greater distances in near-total darkness, while the laser/light combination CMR-204 seemed to be better suited for close-ups - the smaller 100 lumen lamp did the job. It was about 25 yards before lighting performance plummeted, but the green laser proved to be very good and even somewhat useful in daylight. Both mods are used in the flat range, and I think both mods are a great addition to the XCarry Legion if you're looking for an inexpensive light or light/laser combo.

One of my biggest gripes with the P320 platform is that it doesn't seem to work reliably when the mood is low. I've had a lot of experience with P320 and M17 rigs and they didn't work reliably with the suppressor even when using the added recoil spring. However, this problem seems to have been almost completely solved with XCarry Legion. Since the pistol comes standard with a threaded barrel, I wanted to try and see if SIG actually fixed the bugs. On a side note, now is a good time to point out that I would like SIG to follow Beretta's approach of equipping the barrel with O-rings to secure the thread guards. I almost lost my wire protector several times in the field and had to keep rechecking it to make sure it was secure.

I was disappointed with the first shot of the suppressed XCarry Legion. Using the 150 grain Federal Syntech and the TiOn Inc. Grenadier Suppressor, I can't get the pistol to cycle reliably. Moving on to the slightly lighter, slightly faster Federal Syntech 147-grain, I got the same results. I finally had my breakthrough with this combination of parts and found that the Winchester white box subsonic engine worked very well and was reliable in combination with the pistol silencer. Before anyone asks, the TiOn Inc Grenadier muffler is one of the lightest in the industry at just 10.3 oz.

My second produced better results, the Dead Air Odessa 9 Modular Muffler. With the standard factory 115 grain ammo, the Odessa 9 works flawlessly with the XCarry Legion (until the booster breaks). Overall, I think it's safe to say that SIG's XCarry Legion is a good choice for suppressed pistol shooting as long as you're using the correct ammo and the correct suppressor. According to Pete, he has no problem using his MODX-9, which is nearly two ounces lighter than the TiOn Inc Grenadier and Odessa 9.

So who is this gun for? On the one hand, the name "XCarry" tells me that SIG wants this pistol to be a flat, compact pistol that is suitable for duty carry. But the tungsten-infused frame and threaded barrel tell me that SIG is trying to give users a production-grade pistol that can also be suppressed if desired. Either way, I think SIG XCarry Legion is fun to shoot with a full size pistol, and would probably be a good place to build a match gun or a match pistol. You could argue at this point I'm better off buying a metal frame pistol and firing a 226 or 229 with a DA/SA hammer, but I think at this point I'm getting used to bolt action pistols, back to something like my M9A3 Such DA/SA pistols are too much trouble for me, at least in the competitive arena.
