When you join the Air Guard, you go through basic training (BAT) at Joint Base San Antonio. This six-week course teaches life fundamentals, exercises, and ceremonies, while also challenging you physically and mentally while building self-confidence and resilience.

If your hope is to become an Air Force officer, Air Force ROTC is one of three options. With more than 143 universities and colleges nationwide, and more than 850 schools offering the program at their locations, AFROTC is a great way to earn a commission while you earn your degree.
Air Force ROTC offers 3.5-, 3-, and 2.5-year scholarships in all fields. There are two categories of scholarships:
- Complete at least one term of full-time, college-level work (does not include college-level work during high school) and have at least 24 semester hours of college-level credits.
After completing the AFROTC program and degree requirements, students receive a commission as an Air Force second lieutenant and serve a minimum of four years on active duty. If you want to become a pilot, all junior pilot games are competitive. Good college grades, good physical fitness, medical qualifications and good performance are key to selection.

The Officer Training School, located at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, is a "flexible partner" to the Air Force's commissioning programs and prepares officer candidates for the technical, physical and professional demands of the assigned service.
