P365 Sig Review - Let's face it. Not every gun owner is a neat freak. More to the point, not every gun will have the luxury of a bath of fine CLP oil every time a drop of sweat falls on the exposed metal slide. I spent several years carrying the same Sig Sauer P365 almost every day. We've mowed lawns together, removed trees, shoveled knee-deep snow from sidewalks, and even cleaned some gutters in rain storms.
If you've carried the same gun for a decade and it shows no signs of wear, I applaud your maintenance routine or your ability to live in silk pajamas and hardly move or sweat. But as a tool of self-defense, a gun can be expected to go through some scratches, scuffs, and moisture in its life.

So as a revolutionary concealed carry piece that was also the best-selling pistol of 2018 to 2019 – over one million sold – how has the original P365 stood the test of time?
The Sig P365 Xl: A Really Good Pistol
It's not perfect - in fact nothing is real - but I trust it. I've rotated a lot in my carry routine over the years, from .45 ACP Springfield XD Mod.2 and 9mm Glock 19 Gen 4 to the Sig Sauer P320 Compact. I honestly loved them all, and two are still in my collection. But the real yardstick is which gun I've owned the most, and that award goes to the original P365 I picked up several years ago.
It would be a good backup gun, but generally not how I would carry it. In a standard capacity of 10+1, or 12+1 with an only slightly extended magazine, the P365 delivers proven reliability in my own tests along with enough accuracy and capacity to compete with most guns its size. My hands are larger than average, but I can get a nearly full grip with the same 10-round magazine, and the feel of the grip is positively and logically laid out.
Sure, I generally shoot better a full size gun, but the original P365 that came out in 2018 is better and shoots pretty well for me, in calling it the most common carry gun Feels very comfortable. Beyond that, it has evolved into the entire P365 line, with optical-ready, long-slide, short-slide, and special concealer-carry versions.

I'll summarize the modular nature of the P365 and its big brother, the P320 pistol. Basically, the "gun" part of the pistol can be taken off the frame and adapted to your needs. I've rarely needed to do this, but it opens up a world of options for replacing or customizing your weapon parts.
Better yet, as a standard user, the P365 offers some great advantages as a primary self-defense and concealed carry piece. It comes with beautiful three dot, steel, tritium night sights that I have never felt the need to replace.
You can always improve your view on the most modern production. But it is almost forgivable when a good gun comes with a recycled plastic sight that says, “Discard after purchase.” Attention to detail doesn't necessarily make a gun better than the design, but it is a strong indication that the manufacturer cares about the final product.
Standard night views are great, but the enormous potential of this tiny dual-deck shines through even today. Sig Sauer's P365 offered a capacity and size that launched the rest of the firearms world into a gun race to catch up. The reign of the subcompact single-stack 9mms was gone—as more and more companies began launching their own micro 9mms.

I typically carry my P365 with a 10-round magazine, which gives me a 1.44-pound carry gun that's comfortable even during long drives or if I'm working on my roof in the middle of summer. Small enough to carry. After nearly two years as my go-to piece, I don't think my original P365 is going anywhere anytime soon. But it has its own problems.

Given that we live in an imperfect world, it's worth talking a little about the P365's flaws. A common complaint from other reviewers is the length of the grip, but I didn't find this to be a particular problem. It's comfortable and short enough for a pinky extension with 2.25 inches of purchase in the front and a 10-round magazine. But it's surprisingly generous for what it is.
That said, the trigger is basically effectively a 6-pound damper, but not unexpectedly enough to not really allow you to feel the discontinuity of the wall before the break. I want to hate it, but I shoot it well, and it's fine as a self-defense trigger. It is mechanically efficient.

I would call it the opposite of an almost stock Glock trigger. Pulling the stock Glock trigger is like clenching a tooth after licking your finger and letting it freeze in your mini fridge. The stock Sig trigger is kind of like squeezing a wet toothpick inside a wet sponge. Both work, but I wouldn't rate them.
Ultimately, I wasn't impressed with the finish on the original P365. It tends to wear out fairly quickly at points of high friction and sweating. While I have cleaned it fairly regularly, without a baby, most of the wear is based on friction and less on sweat on the gun - the only exception being the magazine which has shown some signs of rust.
I spent a lot of time testing the P365 with an old Polish P-64. I personally like the heavier and faster P-64, but the P365 is a better carry gun, except for the fact that the old Polish pistol never showed a rust stain after months of testing.

Before you toss your Sig Sauer — or "indestructible" Glock, for that matter — into a foundry, I've seen so many well-loved military rifles being roughed up that they've lost their silver just from carrying. Looks like They worked well, and held up well for what I think the P365 was designed to do.
I don't love or hate it as a range gun, but the P365 draws easily, offers controllability in the grip, shoots well at defensive distances, and has a great capacity for its size. The fact that Sig also threw in some niches that were truly worthy of a self-defense pistol was nice. While no gun is perfect, the original P365 continues to earn itself a spot as my go-to carry gun.
The fact that Sig continues to innovate the P365 line is also promising, and I expect to see not only new, but continued attention to supporting the P365 for a long time to come. With my review here that I am a Glock fan and a practical fan, and usually every pistol I shoot against a Glock; either directly or subconsciously. Given that few pistols can match the Glock's simplicity, reliability, and size/weight-to-capacity ratio, it is difficult to recommend most pistols over a similar (but better) Glock model. However, this time, I had little to argue with. The Sig P365 does what the Glock 26 or Glock 43 does better.

I think I have summed up my review there. Well, there's probably a reason to keep reading and my positive assessment of the 365 is not without disagreement, but Sig had a few things going for it here that can't be denied. I spent part of this month shooting and getting familiar with the Sig P365 and this is what I found.
The Sig P365 is a pistol designed for concealed carry. This... also works gypsy, as it takes a frame and slide that is either the same size or smaller as a Glock 43 (single-stack gun) and adds 4 rounds to it. And it does make it more comfortable to hold and has a better trigger.
So you might consider the Sig P365 for its impossible magic of superior capacity and grip comfort over all competitors or perhaps for how logically it allows you to carry one.
