Its small size and high capacity make it a great gun. I have carried it with me for years and it is my constant companion. It's small, easy to shoot, reliable and it gives me options. Now, a few years later, a debate has intensified. Looking at P365 vs P365xl, which is better for concealed carry?
In early June 2019, some of the industry's largest retailers began displaying SIG Sauer OEM 15-round magazines on their websites. Of course, they are out of stock, and there are no pictures. Just one entry, but there are rumors that something big is coming.

Finally, the SIGP365XL enters the collective industry. Several retailers leaked this information, I reached out to my friends at SIG for an official announcement, and they happily handed me the spec sheet.

The SIG P365XL isn't out yet, so we compared it based on our experience with similar weapons like the P365 and Glock 48. Interestingly, both the G48 and G43X are more or less a response to the magazine capacity of the P365.
However, they have longer grips. SIG seems to want to show off again with their 365 XL.
Both the SIG P365 and P365 XL feature the famous SIG P365 Nitron coating. Nitron finish is a strong and reliable finish that excels in corrosion and wear resistance. The finish is solid, and I can attest to this through my personal heavy use of the P365.
It's matte black, but with gray accents. It looks professional with great attention to detail.

There was no clear indication of where the finish was applied or whether it was applied unevenly. It's sleek and looks great. SIG uses stainless steel as the metal underneath the nitron finish, so you have a second, stronger, corrosion-resistant layer.
The black polymer frame is well made, with plastic molding dots showing where the molds come together.
The sockets have the P365 logo and on the XL variant you will also see the XL logo. The black polymer frame also has the SIG SAUER name on the vertical drop, which I really like. Like the P320 series, the P365 uses an internal chassis that allows you to remove the "gun" from the grip module.
This allows you to swap frames or even buy custom frames in different finishes. It's a simple system that works and seems to work well. This may allow you to run SIG P365 standard slides on P365X frames and vice versa.

This is the category that will settle the Sig P365 XL VS Sig P365 debate for most people
The specs are where we can shine a light on the real difference between the two guns. Obviously, the XL moniker means it's a slightly bigger gun, but how big is the golden question. The P365 is already a top-secret gun.
The standard P365 has a 3.1-inch barrel and an overall length of 5.8 inches. It's a sweet little gun. The sig p365 is only 1" wide and 4.3" tall for a standard 10 round magazine. A 12-round magazine is about a tenth of an inch long. The gun also weighs just 17.8 ounces. Overall, it is pocket pistol sized and very small.

A Hybrid P365
Back to the story, the P365 XL comes with a longer 3.7-inch barrel and an overall length of 6.6 inches. The gun weighs 20.07 ounces and the flush magazine is P365 12 rounds. Additionally, an available 15-round magazine extends the height further. The P365 extended magazine is a nice add-on to this gun. Speaking of height, it is 4.8 inches tall and comes with a 12-round magazine.
These are very different guns, but they are small for their class. The P365 is very small compared to guns like the Glock 26. The same goes for the P365 XL. The closest competitor to the P365 XL is the Glock 19 which has a 15 round P365 xl magazine. However, the P365 XL is shorter, lighter and thinner than the Glock 19. In fact, it is comparable in size to the Glock 48 while offering 2 to 5 more rounds.
The SIG P365 is the most ergonomic small pistol available. The grip is long enough for your palm to hold and the undercut design of the trigger guard allows you to hold the gun fairly high. It is designed for ease of use and operation. For me, it's the ultimate compromise between concealed carry comfort and easy shooting.
The P365 XL takes those great layers and moves them around. The P365 XL gives you a long grip and is easy to hold even with large hands.

A longer rail gives you a longer sight radius, making it easier to shoot more accurately at longer ranges. It's more comfortable to shoot, but a bit more difficult to carry concealed.
The thin grip is one of the best on the market. It is more round than square and fits perfectly in the hand. These guns are great for both large and small hands alike.
The P365 XL has a straight flat trigger that's easy for small hands to reach. The XL trigger pull is the same weight, but feels short and breaks when the straight trigger is at a 90 degree angle. It's a fantastic addition, and I'd love to see the standard P365 adopt it as well.
Controls are the same as in the standard model. The standard P365 has a version with a thumb safety feature, the XL model does not. Both the P365 and P365 XL are ergonomic and well-designed weapons.

The P365 debuted as a feature gun. It ships with a 10-round flush magazine and a 10-round magazine with a pink extension. It comes with a 12-round magazine when firing.
This gun is equipped with SIG XRAY3 night vision which is really cool. The ammo rating for this gun is +P, of course, some people prefer the manual safety version. Manual security makes it legal in MA as well.
Can the P365 XL do it better? Yes it does. We've already mentioned the premium flat trigger on the P365 XL. It gives you more trigger control and has a shorter trigger range. Other than that, you still get really great night vision as the stock option. You also get two 12-round magazines, with an optional 15-round magazine coming soon.
Also, you get a gun feature, a milled slider with a red dot on the Buy Let Me Buy. Red dot optics are a great addition to a gun carry. The P365 XL will come with a milled slider to accommodate the new Romeo Zero optics or Shield RMSc red dot. The pistol's red dot allows for faster, longer and more accurate shots. It takes some training to get it right, but once you do, it's hard to go back to just using iron. For those who prefer red dot sights, this feature alone should settle the Sig P365 XL VS Sig P365 debate.
Sig P365x Versus P365xl
The Romeo Zero version will be released at the same time as the P365 XL. Skateboards have your mirrors and place the optics fairly far back. The P365 XL will also have a slightly longer beaver tail, which will give you better control over your weapon and make it more comfortable to shoot.
The grip also features an integrated carry magazine hole, making reloading the firearm faster and more intuitive.
If you have large hands like mine, loading the standard P365 can be difficult. This integrated magazine hole allows you to reload without having to worry about holding the magazine.
One of the most amazing things about P365 is its ease of use. It has no clap and kick, which is rare for a pocket 9mm. The P365 is a great gun. It has some setbacks and facial growth, but it's still manageable. The P365's short beavertail even prevents the bit from slipping, another rarity for this small gun.
